The Stockholm City Hall

Added by: Travelinfo 24.03.2017

The Stockholm City Hall, designed by architect Ragnar Östberg, took 15 years to build and became his masterpiece. The inauguration was held on Midsummer's Eve in 1923 and the building has been a landmark for Stockholm ever since. The tower is 106 meters high and can be visited from May till September. The City hall was built as a working office for the municipality of Stockholm, but is also a venue for receptions and festivities. The lavish interior is made by some of the most known artists and designers of the time, like Carl Eldh, Prince Eugén and Carl Malmsten. The most famous rooms are the Blue hall where the annual Nobel banquet is held, the Golden room with its 18,6 million mosaic pieces of gold leaf and the Prince’s gallery with painted walls by Prince Eugén.
