Celebrate the Holy Month in style

During the Holy Month of Ramadan, a time of reflection and worship, Muslims in the UAE submit to regular prayer and daytime fasting. When the sun sets, Dubai comes to life as families and friends head to Dubai’s elaborately decorated Ramadan tents to break their fasts with an iftar (sunset feast) or suhoor (early morning feast).

And you’re invited to join in, with many hotels and restaurants across Dubai hosting pop-up Ramadan tents for Muslims and non-Muslims alike. There, you can sample traditional Ramadan dishes and celebrate being in the company of family and friends. Here are five of the best to look out for this season in Dubai.

Downtown by Emaar

Dubai comes alive at night during Ramadan, and nowhere is this truer than at the ever-buzzing Downtown area. With that in mind, the ‘Downtown’ Ramadan tent, located at the foot of the Burj Khalifa, couldn’t be more ideally placed to gather family and friends during the Holy Month. With delicious and authentic Arabic cuisine served by the catering team from the nearby Address Downtown hotel, the grand tent is perfect to break your fast in style. A variety of seating areas and glass-enclosed garden, with panoramic views of Downtown Dubai, set the mood for a relaxing yet impressive iftar.

Asateer

A million miles away from the original Bedouin tents, the stunning arrangement at Atlantis the Palm has enough space in its fabric-draped interior to accommodate up to 1000 people per sitting. Famous for so much more than its massive selection of traditional Ramadan dishes, the tent offers the complete Ramadan experience, with traditional oud players, dedicated prayer rooms and special areas reserved for larger parties and corporate groups.

Al Bahou

While it is not technically a tent, Al Bahou, the main restaurant at the Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate, is a beautiful venue that transforms during the Holy Month. A sumptuous buffet featuring all the classic Arab dishes, as well as a huge selection of dates and Ramadan juices, is served against the stunning backdrop of 88 Arabic lanterns hanging from the high ceilings, with the soothing sounds of an oud playing in the background.

Al Majlis

The ever-popular Ramadan tent at Madinat Jumeirah transforms Madinat Arena into a unique setting that oozes Arabesque design - accented by a 25-metre chandelier suspended across the ceiling. Arabic and international cuisine is available from the buffet and live cooking stations, with a large dining area and many private majlis (traditional seating areas) for small groups and corporate parties, all accommodating up to 1000 guests at a time.

Khaymat Al Bahar

Designed in the style of a Sheikh’s summer residence, Al Qasr replicates traditional royal architecture, coupled with luxurious modernity throughout. And while its Khaymat Al Bahar restaurant isn’t exactly a tent, this newly relaunched restaurant sits on prime real estate next to one of the biggest outdoor leisure pools in Dubai. There, you can tuck into a sumptuous buffet spread of fruit platters and a host of Arabic delicacies. After your meal, take the family on an abra ride around the canal system of Madinat Jumeirah, or walk along the waterfront to really soak up the buzzing, late-night atmosphere.
